DIE LANDSCHAFT – SINNHAFT ODER SINNLICH?

If we find ourselves longing to be close to nature once more and to feel it with all our senses, we set off for a walk or hike through the landscape. There it is easier to again connect ourselves to the surrounding nature and to experience ourselves in resonance with it.
Yet, according to Lucius Burckhardt’s strollology, landscape by itself does not exist. It is but a construct, which only exists in our minds. Nonsense?
Undoubtedly, the phenomena perceived by our senses are real, as for example the rock on which we stand and feel beneath our feet, the chirping of the birds that our ears hear, the scent of blooming shrub, and even the mountains and clouds that our eyes see in the distance. However, it is only our cultural perception that tells us that these individual elements become an overall impression – the landscape.
Together with the strollologist Bertram Weisshaar on a walk through the abbey gardens, we are going to reflect on the perception of familiar and new images of landscape or on the contexts of meaning inscribed in parks.
